Move-enabled, on-rails blast 'em up The Shoot has a 19th October US release date in its sights for PlayStation 3, Sony has revealed.PlayStation 3
No UK date has been confirmed by the publisher yet, although online retailer Amazon has it listed for 29th October.PlayStation 3
The game sees you working your way though five different movie sets, shooting anything that moves. Eurogamer tried it out back in March. We grumbled about its "amateurish, low-grade graphics, clumsy scripting, and lack of imagination."PlayStation 3
Still, The Shoot seems like a decent fit for Move's Forbidden Planet raygun-esque 'shooting attachment' which launched at the same time as the controller itself, priced at around £13.99.

Charge cradle confirmed for 3DS
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed the 3DS will come with a special charger cradle.
Speaking during this month's Iwata Asks he said, "As for the battery, it is inevitable that Nintendo 3DS will be a device which requires more frequent recharging than Nintendo DS.
"This is why we are going to include the cradle, which is a dedicated battery charger."
And just in case 3DS owners forget to use it, Nintendo's going to offer a helpful reminder. "Perhaps we may need to dispatch to our consumers a message, something like, "Please place your Nintendo 3DS on the cradle as soon as you return home with it."
As announced last month, the 3DS will launch in Japan on 26th February. US and European launches will follow in March.

Why Nintendo Made The 3DS So Powerful
The Nintendo 3DS has more graphical umpf than the company's previous portables. It's a high-spec machine. Well, a higher spec one.
According to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the reason why the company went with a more powerful machine is that Nintendo did not want developers to shy away from developing for it under the pretext of specs.3DS
"The biggest reason why we developed the portable [with high specs] is because," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told investors earlier this week, "we didn't want developers to think that they couldn't develop their titles for Nintendo game machines due to the specs."
Thus, now developers like Capcom's Yoshinori Ono are saying they are able to do a "perfect port" of the consoles versions of their games to the 3DS.
The other reason for high specs was so that the company could pull of 3D — the "reality" of it.

Rock Band 3's Keyboard Bundle, For PS3, Won't Be Sold In North America
Folks noticed that Rock Band 3's PS3 keyboard bundle had disappeared from U.S. retail sites, and asked Harmonix why. It seems contract terms in the region prohibit its sale. And now they must wangle a fix for those who preordered.PS3
"Unfortunately, this SKU will not be available in the U.S. (including Canada and Mexico) due to the agreement terms for the region," Harmonix said yesterday. It added that Mad Catz (the peripheral's maker) and MTV Games are working with retailers who accepted preorders for this bundle to allow them, if they choose, to honor them as a "soft bundle" at the same preorder price. In other words, those who booked a keyboard bundle will get two separate products, the game and keyboard, but for the combined original price.PS3
But going forward, no PS3 Keyboard bundle in North America. (It is available in Europe). That means if you want the game and the keyboard, you're going to pay $10 more to buy them separately than Xbox 360 and Wii owners are paying to get them in a bundle. And those bundles are not at all affected by this news.
The game arrives Oct. 26.

The 20 Most-Loved Wii Games, A New Number One
Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the all-star fighting game, is no longer the most-loved Wii game. Three years since we started measuring these Wii playing-time stats, Smash has been dethroned ... by a game whose average user plays for 80 hours.
Monster Hunter Tri, the online-oriented co-op game about, well, hunting monsters, is the new number one. It did what Animal Crossing and Call of Duty have failed to do. It has racked up more hours of play time, per gamer who owns or rents the game, than any Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
This is our latest chart, showing Monster Hunter's ascendancy.
(Click the chart to enlarge it.)
A few other things to note as you scrutinize our monthly update of the most-loved games on the Wii:
1) We've got a new entry in the No. 20 spot, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010.
2) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex Edition, clearly propelled by online play, has passed another game, the slowly-fading Guitar Hero III. Another mover is WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2010. That wrestling series shows healthy growth, though the '09 edition (released in 2008) no longer charts.
3) Single-player games continue to struggle for success in the chart. Only Harvest Moon: Animal Parade is showing any growth. This is a sign that people don't re-play their single-player games. Not a big surprise.
Here's the Top 20 games from the chart in list form. I'm including the cumulative lifetime play-time counts, as of October 1, 2010 in hours and minutes. You can see just how close some of these games are.
1. Monster Hunter Tri - 79:34 (up from the 2nd spot)
2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 78:19 (down from the 1st spot)
3. Animal Crossing: City Folk - 74:23
4. Harvest Moon: Animal Parade - 63:57
5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition - 57:44 (up from the 6th spot)
6. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - 56:59 (down from the 5th spot)
7. Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility - 52:48
8. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - 52:13
9. Call of Duty: World at War - 51:08
10. Rune Factory: Frontier - 50:23
11. WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2010 - 49:22 (up from the 13th spot)
12. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga - 49:11
13. Rock Band 2 - 48:56 (down from the 11th spot)
14. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - 47:43
15. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - 41:07
16. Mario Kart Wii - 40:43
17. Wii Sports - 39:40
18. FIFA Soccer 09 All-Play - 39:03
19. Guitar Hero: World Tour - 37:49
20. Pro Evolution 2010 - 37:27 (new entry)
Where's all this from? (AKA an explanation of the above chart for stat junkies only): In a move somewhat surprising for the generally secretive company, Nintendo makes all of this data public. Any Wii owner can download the Nintendo Channel to their Wii and begin browsing for games. Any game that has been played enough times has usage stats listed for it, contributed by anyone who chose to share their data with the channel. The sample size that the channel tracks is pretty good, though it is obviously biased toward users who hook up a Wii to the Internet. We calculate that sample size by looking at Wii Sports usage numbers, which show that more than 124 million sessions of that game have been played by Nintendo Channel users as of October 1 (up 3 million in the last month), for an average of 31.31 sessions per player. That divides to around 4.0 million Wii Sports users whose gaming has been tracked by the channel. Since almost all Wii Sports owners in North America would be Wii users, we will venture that as many as 4.0 million people have contributed stats. That is up from the 3.9 million people when these numbers were run for September 1. (Please not that in the chart atop this post October 09 data is not included due to a problem with Nintendo's data reporting during that period.)

The Glif Stand and Camera Mount Is the Sidekick Your iPhone 4 Deserves
The Glif is one impressive little piece of plastic. It can stand your iPhone 4 up in portrait mode. It can prop it up in landscape. And it has a built-in camera mount for attaching your iPhone to a tripod.iPhone 4
It's just a small piece of injection molded plastic that's shaped like a bottle opener. But as the above video shows, the cleverly-designed Glif hides a surprising amount of functionality. Stand your iPhone up during FaceTime calls. Prop it up as a mini computer. Or strap it to a tripod and get your iMovie app money's worth.iPhone 4
I've always loathed the idea of pairing my sleek iPhone with cumbersome plastic accessories, and I would have loved to dismiss the Glif and just go about my business. But the thing looks just too damn useful to ignore. Glif smashed through their Kickstarter goal of $10,000 yesterday, and as of now over 1000 supporters have donated upwards of $30,000. That means production should start soon. I'm excited.iPhone 4
Nintendo mulls auto 3DS firmware updates
Nintendo is looking into making the 3DS automatically download firmware updates from the internet.
The move may enable Nintendo to combat piracy more effectively than it has done with the DS.
During an investor question and answer session, an attendee asked CEO Satoru Iwata if Nintendo will implement anti-piracy measures via the internet. He replied: "As part of the functionality of SpotPass, we're looking into having automatic system updates via the internet."
SpotPass means 3DS units set to sleep mode will not only communicate with other 3DS units but the internet via Wi-Fi.
However, Iwata said piracy prevention is secondary to offering new functionality to owners. Once the system has found an access point, it will download rankings, ghost data, free software and notifications.
Meanwhile, Iwata said Nintendo expects to keep game prices around the same price point as current DS releases.
"We don't believe that the world is in a state where high priced software will sell well, so we don't believe it will be in a price range too far off from current DS software," Iwata said.
The 3DS, revealed at E3 2010 and dated and priced for Japan last week, is due out in Europe and the US in March.

Epic: Future Xbox, PS could be mobile
Epic Games boss Mark Rein reckons future Xbox and PlayStation consoles could be portable.
"Imagine a future Xbox 360 that is actually a tablet you carry around," Rein told Develop.
"It will have more power than 360 does today, with technology like Kinect built right in.
"Imagine walking into a bar with some friends, propping it up on the table and playing games like Dance Central or Kinect Adventures anywhere you go. Then when you get home that same device will use technology like AirPlay or wireless HDMI to connect to your big screen, you'll pick up a wireless controller, or use your phone as a controller to play games like Gears of War.
"It feels like there's a great opportunity for game consoles to cease to be something you plug into the wall and rather become something you take with you. Of course it will be more than just your game console; you can have your productivity apps, your documents, and your media collections on it as well."
Both Microsoft and Sony have kept quiet on their plans for new hardware, and instead pushed motion control add-ons Kinect and Move.
Microsoft reckons Kinect, due out on 10th November, will extend the life of the Xbox 360 by five years.
Epic, of course, is an important cog in the Xbox 360 wheel. Its Microsoft Game Studios-published third-person action series Gears of War has done much to attract gamers to the console.
But Epic is keen to extend its reach beyond home consoles, and has in recent months pushed the viability of triple-A games on mobile phones such as the iPhone.

PC, PS3 and 360 Black Ops runs in 3D
All three versions of guaranteed behemoth Call of Duty: Black Ops will support stereoscopic 3D at launch, Activision's announced.
You'll need a 3D telly or a PC that supports 3D, and active shutter glasses, of course. The PC version is NVIDIA 3D Vision-Ready and supports stereoscopic 3D gaming using 3D Vision active-shutter glasses and NVIDIA GeForce GPUs.
"Development of stereoscopic 3D began as an R&D project, but once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops," Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia said.
"Aiming down the sights of your weapons, flying in helicopters, rappelling down mountains, and moving through highly detailed environments are just some of the awesome experiences you will have in 3D with Black Ops.Xbox 360
"We made sure the experience is seamless for gamers to use with a simple menu option to enable stereoscopic 3D or disable it at any time whether playing in the single player campaign, multiplayer or Zombies."Xbox 360
Activision reckons Black Ops "could become the definitive 3D game experience".Xbox 360
Nick Cowen went hands-on with Black Ops' multiplayer for Eurogamer last month. The game is due out worldwide on 9th November.Xbox 360

PS3 connectivity forced LBP2 delay
Media Molecule delayed LittleBigPlanet 2 because a minority of PS3 owners fail to connect to the internet, the developer has said.
Those disconnected people prevented the developer from patch-fixing the game. Instead, Media Molecule must ship a ship-shape ship.PS3
"We respect people don't have online and don't want to patch their game PS3 to get the full experience," MM boss Alex Evans told VG247 at the Eurogamer Expo 2010. "We could have shipped it and it would have been fine. However, we realised that with just a couple of extra weeks we could make the game super amazing, adding the super onto the already amazing which exists today.PS3
"This is something that will live forever and the delay, people will forget about."
"I'm really sorry the delay frustrated people," he added, "even us - I mean I really wanted to get this game out for Christmas so hard. We pushed ourselves but realised with just a few more weeks we could make it perfect."
Those who cannot connect to the internet while playing will miss out on the community-shared content, patches, updates and add-on gubbins, of course - plenty of which will be thrown at LittleBigPlanet 2.
Not to mention PlayStation Move support, which Media Molecule has said will be patched in after the game's new January release date. A demo of how the new controls will work will be included with LittleBigPlanet 2.
In the immediate aftermath of the delay, Media Molecule praised fans' reactions for being "very understanding". After all, the delay will mean a more polished, complete package.

Nintendo: 4m 3DS sales in first month
Hot on the heels of its Japanese 3DS launch date and price announcement this morning Nintendo has confidently predicted it'll shift a whopping four million units of its handheld wonder during its first month on sale.
In the same breath, however, it cut its profit forecast for the rest of its financial year, which ends in March 2011.
Nintendo now expects $1 billion in profit for the year, down from an initial projection of $2.4 billion profit. How will it live?
The 3DS will go on sale on 26th February in Japan and March in Europe and the US.
This morning's news came as some disappointment to fans who were hoping for Santa to drop a 3DS down their chimneys this Christmas.
While Nintendo failed to reveal European pricing, some have already baulked at the UK cost suggested by the Japanese price: 25,000 yen (£189 at current exchange rates).
Nintendo said the strong yen, which reduces profits from overseas sales when brought back to Japan, and the timing of the 3DS launch were behind its decision to lower projections for the fiscal year.
Nintendo expects to sell 23.5 million DS machines, including four million 3DS consoles, for the year to March 2011, down from its earlier forecast of 30 million. It sold 27 million DS machines the previous fiscal year.

Tips For Choosing A DSi Card That Will Not Become Obsolete Due To New DSi Firmware
In light of the new release of the new DSi firmware 1.4.1, we would like to share with you some useful tips for investing in a DSi card that will last through all the future DSi firmware updates.
Some of the DSi flashcarts do not have the firmware update function and will be blocked when a new DSi firmware is released. DSi firmware is normally updated without the user's awareness whenever the DSi console is connected to the internet via the Wifi wireless.
Fortunately, some DSi cards have the firmware update function and can be unlocked even when the DSi console is updated to the latest firmware. The unlocking process requires the new firmware from the DSi card manufacturers' websites.
The unlocking processes differ from card to card and is one of the important factors to consider when picking the most suitable card for you or your loved ones. The unlocking process has two types. For type one, the unlocking process can be done on a PC or Mac. The type two requires a DS Lite or a DSi with the compatible firmware version to complete.
A DS Lite or a DSi with the compatible firmware may not come handy for some users and the process may prove to be somewhat troublesome or difficult. For instance, as of 26/09/2010, the newest DSi firmware is 1.4.1. If your card only works with DSi firmware 1.4 and you have accidentally updated your DSi console firmware to 1.4.1, you will need another DSi console with firmware 1.4 (or lower) or a DS Lite to update the firmware on the card so that it will work on the DSi console again.
The following is the most popular and reliable DSi cards that have the firmare update function in alphabetical order:
1. Acekard 2i
2. EZ Flash 5i
3. Hyper R4i
4. M3i Zero
5. Supercard DSONEi
6. Supercard DSTWO
Now the question is: which ones' unlocking process can be done on a PC or Mac? They are:
1. M3i Zero
2. Supercard DSONEi
3. Supercard DSTWO
Among the three, the Supercard DSONEi and DSTWO are better than the M3i Zero in build quality and reliability. The Supercard DSTWO is also expected to be able to run emulators with PSP games in the near future.
The following are cards with unlocking process requiring a DS Lite or a DSi with the compatible firmware version to complete:
1. Acekard 2i
2. EZ Flash 5i
3. Hyper R4i
Good Luck & Enjoy!

PSP2 Hardware Now In The Hands Of 'Numerous' Developers
Sony is reportedly giving more and more developers access to the successor to the soon to be six-year-old PSP, with dev kits in the hands of (or en route to) "numerous development studios."
Develop cites "multiple industry sources" who claim that the "PSP2" is gearing up for a "significant launch window line-up," with developer-only hardware in the hands of Sony's internal teams and third-party video game makers. A developer at Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm recently claimed the Warner Bros.-owned studio had PSP2 hardware.
We've never lacked for unconfirmed information on Sony's next handheld games machine. According to some reports, it has touch controls on its posterior, while others point to agaming device that also acts as a smart phone and e-reader.
Sony, for its part, is not yet talking openly about the successor to the PlayStation Portable. The original PSP has sold more than 62 million units across multiple configurations, according to Sony.
